哈佛大學(xué)簡(jiǎn)介
哈佛大學(xué)（Harvard university）是一所私立的高等學(xué)校。建于1636年，比美國(guó)作為獨(dú)立國(guó)家的建立幾乎要早一個(gè)半世紀(jì)。當(dāng)年，移居美洲的英國(guó)清教徒，為其子孫后代的幸福，仿效當(dāng)時(shí)故劍橋大學(xué)的模式，在馬薩諸塞州的查爾斯河畔，建立了這所美國(guó)歷史上的第一所高等學(xué)校，始稱劍橋?qū)W院。逐漸興起的小鎮(zhèn)，從此亦稱劍橋，中文譯音稱坎布里奇。1639年，學(xué)校更名為哈佛學(xué)院，目的是為了永久紀(jì)念學(xué)校創(chuàng)辦人之一和辦學(xué)經(jīng)費(fèi)的主要捐獻(xiàn)者、英國(guó)劍橋大學(xué)伊曼紐爾學(xué)院文學(xué)碩士約翰·哈佛。
1780年，哈佛學(xué)院被馬薩諸塞州議會(huì)破格升為哈佛大學(xué)，此名一直沿用至今，常被簡(jiǎn)稱為哈佛。哈佛大學(xué)是長(zhǎng)春藤盟校的八名成員之首。
