項目的學制是2年，36學分，這算是美國FT碩士項目中學制最長的了，其他項目的學制多是在1-1.5年。
課程要求一共36學分，包括18學分的必修課，18學分的分支課和選修課。課程特色之一是capstone project，在現實環境中應用從課程中學到的理論知識。通過這個project，學生將經歷解決現實世界問題的整個過程：從收集和處理現實世界的數據，到設計解決問題的最佳方法，最后實現解決方案。學生接觸到的問題和數據集來自現實世界，與未來可能在業界、學術界或政府中遇到的情況相同。

學生可以選擇Industry Concentration，在項目期間將所學知識和技能應用到具體行業。這個方向在第一年有實習的要求，國際生可以申請CPT。這個方向的其他課程要求有：
DS-GA 1009 Practical Training for Data Science within the first year of the program (3 credits in fall, spring, or summer)
2 electives within the Big Data or Natural Language Processing subject areas (6 credits, see below for more details).
課程目前還提供3個track，有老師建議和幫助學生規劃課程選擇和職業。直到第二學期結束前，學生都可以選擇更改track。具體track是：

Data Science – Biomedical Informatics (Medical School) Track
CDS的就業服務比較全面，不過可能是因為擴招的原因，難以兼顧所有學生，所以有的學生會覺得服務質量一般。但是還是想勸同學們找工作不能光指望學校能提供的幫助，主要還是靠自己主動出擊。
CDS能提供的服務有：
Company Information Session，CDS在秋季和春季學期提供內部CIS。在這些session中，學生了解公司及其數據科學舉措。公司代表分享關于他們是誰、他們做什么、數據科學家在組織中扮演的角色以及他們所從事的有趣的數據科學項目的信息。學生們還可以通過在該公司作為數據科學家的“生活中的一天”來了解在該公司工作是什么感覺。
